The Connected Parent

Understanding your child’s nervous system so they feel safe, seen and supported

This course offers a practical introduction to children’s nervous system and brain development and how their ability to self-regulate is shaped by the presence and attunement of their parents over the years. You’ll discover ways adults may unintentionally create a sense of uncertainty and what you can do instead to foster safety, connection and trust.

Overview

Why the nervous system matters

So often, the focus is placed on children’s behavior: how they’re acting, what they need to change, how to manage the day-to-day challenges. But what’s often missing is the nervous system lens — the deeper understanding of what’s happening in the body, both yours and your child’s, in moments of stress, conflict or disconnection.

When we don’t take the nervous system into consideration, we risk misinterpreting behaviour as defiance or personality, when in reality it’s a survival response. Instead of presence, connection and guidance, we may find ourselves stuck in cycles of frustration, overwhelm or guilt. This can create patterns of disconnection — not because we don’t love our children, but because we haven’t been shown another way.

Who is this for

  • You’ve been trying different ways to support your child but feel overwhelmed, unsure or frustrated by their emotions and behaviours.
  • You’ve been searching for guidance that goes beyond tips and strategies, wanting a grounded, science-informed approach to support your child’s development.
  • You’re committed to your own growth as a parent, recognising that supporting your child begins with awareness and care for your own nervous system.

What's inside the course

This 2-hour experience weaves together education, guided reflection and somatic tools for you and your child to help you understand and begin to reshape your relationship with your child's and your own nervous system.

Here’s what we’ll explore together

  • Nervous system development in children and their capacity for self-regulation
  • The concept of embodied communication - how children express their internal states and seek to be seen
  • The importance of being a regulated (not calm, but present) parent to support your child’s regulation

You will also get access to

  • Six guides (one for each lesson) with reflection prompts & regulation practices for you and your child
  • Cheatsheet for connection and regulation
  • Seven self-regulation practices for children
  • Two guided somatic practices for parents
  • A list of references and further resources

This work can transform not only how you respond in difficult moments, but the entire foundation of your relationship with your child.
